No he cannot. He cannot shut up. He cannot stop lying. And now he seems to think that if he just ends lockdowns (which are being done at the state level anyway), the economy will bounce back and return to normal. Even if hundreds of thousands are dying of covid-19, which is what will happen if we do that before we can test and isolate properly.

Please s top spreading fake news. Trump never told anyone to take anything . he only said he had high hopes for it. he is not a doctor and cannot prescribe anything to anyone.
When one takes medicine, s/he assumes the risk that comes with it. Every medicine has side effects. Every person reacts different.

He also said “The nice part is that it’s been around for a long time, so we know that if things don’t go as planned, it’s not going to kill anybody", which is untrue, and caused a run on medicine that people with Lupus need by saying this and other things that needed to be immediately corrected by his staff. 1 - there is a bit of confusion if they took sulfate or phosphate - wrong medicine is poison.
2 - the OP says trump killed them by telling them to take it. Fake news. Trump never said that. Only said he had high hopes for the medicine and as of yesterday, trials with this medicine began in NY state.

Yep...
My thinking is along these lines:
Americans are asking: When can we leave our homes and go back to work? That question makes sense. But we need to ask: When will we have the testing infrastructure we need to defeat the pandemic without freezing the economy?
From this article: Don’t Halt Social Distancing. Instead, Do It Right.
If Trump wants to get things back to normal (and he should), he needs to be pounding the drum on expanded testing, and doing everything in his power to make it happen, not just deciding that things have been shut down for a while, so that’s good enough.

1) But was it prescribed or OTC? If the latter, would it only be available at pet supplies shop?
2) Trump is the elected leader of our country, so it would be natural for one to follow the guidance of a leader. Unfortunately for all of us, Trump is nothing but the human embodiment of Fake News — an insult and a danger to any living being that isn’t Trump.
I believe that suggesting the hyperbole and obvious anger of one’s opinion to be “fake news” is a disservice to the point you maybe trying to make.

I live in Austin. It’s my understanding that, in spite of what Gov. Abbott says, tests are not easily available. The only way you can be sure to get a test is if you have been admitted to the hospital, and by then it’s too late.

Medicine these folks took is no medicine at all but allegedly an aquarium cleaner.
Trump never gave out a prescription to anyone to take this medicine. Just because he says he has high hopes for it, one still needs prescription to get this medicine. To get prescription, one must consult a doctor.

Seems that way. It’s the internet and all, so grain of salt...but lots of complaints in Houston area about being denied tests/low availability. I know the criteria level was high to even get a test now long ago - like hospital admittance, recent travel to China, or direct contact . Like you can get a flu test and if it comes back, you still can’t get tested for COVID-19. Rumormill , but beli evable. IMO lots of people here have it that haven’t/can’t get testing. While I also would wish he would be quiet and socially distance himself, this was a bi t more a case of Darwinism.
“the couple, both in their 60s, ingested chloroquine phosphate, an additive commonly used at aquariums to clean fish tanks.” The aquarium additive the couple ingested is not the same as the medication that has been used to treat malaria.
Not sure where they got the commercial-grade cleaner, but they should have known not to mix it with Cherry Cola regardless of who told them to.

Trump shouldn’t be saying anything about it at all. That’s the point everyone is trying to get into your head. And it’s not helped by headlines like this.
doesn’t speak well of people who think he can “clear” anything like that. and he HAS called it “safe” and “won’t kill anyone” which is false. Pharmaceutical versions of chloroquine are known to have a small therapeutic index (difference between an effective dose and a toxic dose.)

Trump is trying to calm the masses who are panicked over loss of income and sense of normalcy. Saying you might have a solution that is currently being tested sounds a LOT better than saying - I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. EVERY MAN ON THEIR OWN.
How some bozo interpreted it is a different story. I had no idea there was an aquarium cleaner with a very similar name. Mainly because I don’t have aquarium. Somehow I have enough sense to know that prescription drugs come from doctors and pharmacies, not pet stores or trunks of Cadillacs in dark alleys

I posted this a week ago..
The week of February 17 th was great, I was out and in front of customers every day, ending with my first meeting @ [redacted] in Kirkland on Friday the 21st. Saturday we dropped by Costco in Woodinville to pick up a few things, it was pandemonium as people were buying stuff to prepare for extended time at home. Crazy.
Sunday February 23 rd I began to feel symptoms of a cold or flu, nothing specific just a general “don’t feel great” kinda thing. So I went outside and split three cords of wood. This general feeling of blah went on all week, with a dry cough. Tammy had the same thing, but her’s ended and she felt just fine. We both got our flu shots several months ago, so I figured I was likely getting a common cold.
Monday March 2
nd
the coughing really got going
and that changed quickly to a wet cough, the intensity/duration cranked up.
Just to keep things interesting, diarrhea decided to join the party. Not
pleasant and is it turned out, lasted throughout the week.
Tuesday brought the aches, but not like a normal flu.
Usually you feel achy all over, get the shivers, etc. This was
targeted and intense, shoulders got it first, subsided after several hours,
then back took the brunt of it, followed by ankles, etc.. it’s like the virus
goes after a part of you, does as much as it can, then moves on to another
area. This went on until Thursday.
Throughout all of this the headaches were ever
present, but they got super intense on Friday and Saturday. Fever was hovering
around 100F on Friday, crept up to 102F on Saturday. These two days were
a tsunami of symptoms, I binge watched HGTV and did nothing. Sunday
afternoon the fever was gone and the coughing dropped by 75%, all that’s left
is fatigue.
This thing
hits hard but seems to be relatively short in duration.
It’s worth noting that the medical professionals you rely on
aren’t gonna help unless your symptoms are considered serious. Pneumonia and/or
persistent high fever will get you plenty of help, otherwise stay home. In
fact, if you do decide to see your doctor they’re asking that you call ahead so
they’re prepared, I imagine they have you come in a back door or something.
If they
think
you’re positive (note, there’s no test kits
available) they’ll send you home and you’re supposed to monitor breathing &
fever, if it’s apparent that you’re in distress they will hospitalize
you. So, you’re sick and it sure feels different from a run of the mill
cold or flu, but you have no way of knowing exactly what you have. The symptoms
I had were consistent with the known Covid-19 symptoms, so I’m guessing that’s
what it was.
What we did throughout the week was focus on self treatment:
I drank about 2 gallons
of water a day
Breakfast was various
fruits, lots blueberries. Glass of pure Pomegranate juice, sometimes mixed
with orange juice.
Lunch was soup. I make
my own soups and freeze ‘em, sure came in handy.
Dinner was fish and
green salads, mostly halibut and salmon.
Before bed I took some
melatonin. It really helps you sleep
Saturday and Sunday I did absolutely nothing, binge watched television and read my Kindle. Sunday afternoon was good as the symptoms were mostly gone or greatly diminished. In hindsight I shoulda done the complete rest thing much earlier, other than that I think the steps we took were sensible. Feel free to share my adventure with anyone if it helps.

IIRC MDs aren’t as well-versed in the effects of medications as one might think. they know which ones are indicated for particular conditions and the recommended dosages. But pharmacology/pharmacy is a rather important and rigorous field as well; they’re far more steeped in contraindications, side effects, and potential interactions . There’s a reason it takes 20 minutes to get a prescription filled, and it’s not because they’re slow at counting ;)
